A Lucky Man

My wife’s Uncle George passed away last week.  He was a good man.

Funerals have a way of grounding us and bringing us back to the important things in our lives.  As I sat at a table in the corner of the reception hall following the service, it occurred to me that Uncle George passed holding a gift that all of us pray for and few of us ever get near:  He passed with the peace that comes from knowing that the family to whom he dedicated his life was going to be O.K.  He didn’t have to worry. There was no need to beg God for more time to make sure his children were taken care of.  He knew.  He had done his job, and done it well.  He knew his daughters had grown to be amazing women with wonderful families of their own.  And he knew that they would be there for each other… and his loving wife.

I guess all parents worry for their children.  I suppose we all bargain with God to give us enough time on this Earth to make sure our kids are secure and fulfilled.

I would sacrifice 50 years of my life to pass like Uncle George.

((hugs)) to you and your family. Sorry for your loss but grateful to hear he was at peace. That's what I want too when I go. Simply to be able to rest assured my kids are going to be ok. I pray often that God won't take me from them until that can be true.

    Thank-you for sharing

George was a wonderful man. I married in to the Reed family and only saw him maybe a dozen times, BUT he never forgot my name or my childrens at each event I saw him at. May God Bless his family awith his passing.

Jerry…just reread and shared this beautiful blog about an amazing man…My Dad. Thank you for your heartfelt thoughts about him AND for continuing to educate us all about Life with Autism. There is SO much in life many of us take for granted every day. We have to see each and every blessing God places before us, and appreciate it. You and Jo-Ann are amazing parents…Anna and Eric are lucky to have you. And you are lucky to have them 🙂
