About Us

Mr. Bacon (Jerry Turning, Jr.) is the creator of this page and wonderful Bacon and Juiceboxes Facebook community.  A self-described, introvert he regularly shares his thoughts and feelings through his writing.  He is a retired Police Captain.  He uses his 25 year expertise as a police officer to train first responders, search and rescue teams, school adminstrations and students on a variety of topics related to autism and policing.  He has spoken in many venues, to groups large and small, regarding “Our Life with Autism” as well as about “Bridging the Gap” between the Police and individuals with Autism and other special needs.   If you are interested in having “Mr. Bacon” speak for your event, or write an article for your organization/website/publication, please contact via email.  Mr. Bacon is President of Blue Bridge Training, and also published his debut novel in 2020, “Desperate Pursuits.”

“Mrs. Bacon” (Jo-Ann) began as a “Guest” poster on this page and realized how therapeutic it could become.  She has become a regular contributor to the page. As a mom who works full-time, raising 2 young adults – one who has autism – the days are filled with chaos, stress and lots of love.  She is also President of Special Wants nonprofit organization.

“Sister Bacon” (Anna) is a super sibling to her brother Eric.  She is wise and compassionate beyond her years.  In November 2015, she created the Special Wants: A Bacon and Juice Boxes Project facebook page that connects families who have loved ones with special needs, with other families searching for discontinued, or hard to find items.  It has become an amazing community.

And the star of the show is: Eric.  Now navigating his teenage years, he still surprises us daily.  The days aren’t always easy.  We try to remember the happy and survive the sad.   We are blessed with the greatest extended family on the planet.  Without their help our family may have crumbled a long time ago.  It definitely takes a village.

We love getting to share our journey with all of you — we lovingly refer to as our “Bacon Bits.”  It’s like having an enormous super secret and very special extended family.  Thanks for sharing your lives with us.
